Our test car is the 435i Gran Coupe M Sport – the most powerful petrol engine in the range and the top trim level. It is rear-wheel drive, tops out at 155mph (limited), does 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds and has a smooth 302bhp, six-cylinder turbocharged engine. It costs £41,665.
The 430i and 430i xDrive models include a 2.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 255 hp. The M440i and M440i xDrive models have a more powerful 3.0-liter BMW M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 386 hp.

It's fairly reliable and the engine and transmissions are very reliable. So personally, I would go for a 440 if you can. But if a 430 is what's realistic, just make sure it has full leather and the technology package. If you're going to pay a premium to have a BMW, get one that feels like a luxury car inside.
While the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is a niche model, it still has direct competition in the form of the Audi A5 Sportback. Mercedes doesn't do a four-door coupe version of the C-Class, but you might also want to consider the smaller Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe.
A Premium package at the 430i trim level will give you full leather upholstery and several upgrades from the M440i, including keyless entry and ignition, an upgraded Harmon/Kardon® audio system with 16 speakers and satellite radio tuner, and power lumbar adjustment.
Getting to 60 in six, seven, even eight seconds is plenty. And, remember, getting these 0-60 times isn't easy! To get these times, carmakers and test drivers do multiple runs in ideal conditions, and sometimes those numbers are not exactly what you think, because they're often measured with what's known as rollout.
The 2017 4 Series ranges in power from the 430i xDrive Coupe 2D with 248 horsepower and a 0-60 time of 5.5 seconds to the 440i Coupe 2D with 320 horsepower and a 0-60 time of 4.8 seconds.
